Our Clients

In Education, Disability and Public Law cases, we mainly act for parents of children with SEN but we are also instructed by or on behalf of schools, education and disability organisations.  Douglas conducts all cases personally with the assistance of our small but ‘tight’ team, ranging from general advice and assistance through to full representation. He usually provides advocacy personally at SEND Tribunal hearings.

In addition, Douglas is often instructed on a ‘Consultancy’ or ‘Advice-Only’ basis in order to help clients in their ongoing dealings with schools, LEAs and other public bodies, particularly at an early stage or where they want to do as much as possible themselves but still wish to have his expert legal advice and assistance.

We are often instructed as a Consultant by clients seeking advice in their ongoing dealings with Schools, LEAs or other public bodies, rather than full representation, particularly at an early stage of a case. Many clients approach us very early on in the SEN process for advice on and help with the ‘Statementing’ process. We realise the importance of trying to introduce or maintain a constructive dialogue and future relationship between disputing parties without always having to involve lawyers directly, as this can sometimes ‘raise the temperature’ unnecessarily.  This consultancy service is also used by schools as well as by parents.

From experience we realise the importance of trying to introduce or maintain a constructive dialogue and protect the future relationship between potentially disputing parties without having to involve lawyers, which can often raise the temperature unnecessarily on issues. We therefore may encourage clients and other parties to utilise mediation to resolve problems wherever possible.
