Parent Partnership
WHAT IS PARENT PARTNERSHIP?
Parent Partnerships were created in order to provide advice and information to parents who have a child with SEN. The majority of Parent Partnerships are based in their LEA or Children’s Services. They should provide accurate and unbiased information on the options available to parents. Parent Partnership services say they believe that every child and their family have the right to a positive educational and life experience.
WHAT DO PARENT PARTNERSHIPS DO?
Parent Partnerships have a wide and varied role. They can provide impartial advice and support (often one-to-one) to parents. For example, they aim to support parents by attending meetings with them with schools and LEAs, helping them voice their parental concerns and empowering parents to make appropriate and informed choices for their children. Parent Partnerships can also help parents to make contact with other professionals and services which might assist them in getting the best for their child as well as providing parents with opportunities to join parental support groups. Additionally they can help train parents, carers, teachers and LSAs/TAs by providing general information about SEN.
